Burning Bridges

You reserve a garden. You reserve a seat. You reserve a room. And just like that, without realizing, you reserve people and a place in your heart for them.

But sometimes, the garden dies. The seat gets taken or broken. The room is demolished. You lose that person through dying means. –

A garden can do no wrong, but the rains or savage heat destroys it’s peace, until there is a withering bond. A seat can be lost because you were too late. A room can become infested so you evacuate. People let you down, they disappoint you, they hurt you and yet they don’t turn back to offer a giving hand (an apology).

And you forgive because you have a heart that says you’re about giving, not about taking. But, just like the garden, you have your day. The day you decide to burn a bridge.

Burning bridges, even with those you thought you’d never lose, doesn’t mean you’ve chosen to be mean. It simply indicates that you recognize that the lifeline of that person in your life has expired with no more contributions to grow. Hence, a reservation gets free and a garden reflourishes for brand new beginnings.

You have taken the step to take care of you. Because if you carry forth as a bridge with a broken step, then you’re bound to fall through and get lost in the water’s oblivion. Burn your bridges that don’t help you cross, care for yourself and due care shall arise. –

They say you should mend things that are broken. Just don’t discard of them. But there are some things that cannot be fixed. There are some relationships that do not help us in anyway, not through growth, not through happiness and sadness, not even through healing. These are the bridges that we need to burn. It was a daunting idea to me once. I was scared to lose people. But the matter of fact is that I’m not scared anymore. I don’t hesitate to burn bridges, especially the ones I have control over.
